OSX Tips – Disable Spotlight from the Command Line

If you want to disable OSX’s Spotlight in order to free up resources you can do so from the command line by disabling the daemon:

sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist

And to turn it back on again:

sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.metadata.mds.plist
